The plan details a three-year roadmap for transforming Pitt information technology.
The Imperative for Change
Providing state-of-the-art IT to advance teaching and research. Strengthening data protection. Improving collaboration and transparency. Meeting the Information Technology Assessment Report's goals will lead to these and other improvements in IT at Pitt.
Update and Next Steps
Thank you to everyone in the University community who participated in the IT Assessment process by responding to surveys, taking part in interviews, and providing comments and suggestions on the initial overview and detailed report. The majority of responses indicate that the University is moving in the right direction by performing the Assessment, and students, faculty, and staff are excited about the opportunities the recommendations provide. Every comment has been evaluated diligently. The revised reports reflect some of the suggestions that have been received. Those comments or suggestions not reflected in changes to the report will be used to inform the IT Transformation project as it moves forward.
This Assessment is a framework for IT Transformation at Pitt. While recommendations are included, these recommendations describe improvement opportunities. The implementation will involve the formation of working groups around specific opportunities to determine how these might work for the University of Pittsburgh. One of the key recommendations is the implementation of IT Governance. The development of an IT Governance structure will require widespread participation across the University.
As announced last month, Pitt is in the process of a CIO transition. Once the new CIO is in place, an important first step will be addressing IT Governance and working in partnership with the University community to review recommendations outlined in the Assessment.
This Assessment is an important step to ensuring that IT at the University is positioned to advance the University’s teaching, research, and service missions and the goals of the Plan for Pitt. Once again, thanks to all who have and will continue to participate in this effort.
